Have youever felt trapped? Caged? Barred? Have you ever looked up from your average, normal life -out from the tedium of normality and sanity- and felt that somehow, some way that you were chained down? Can you ever feel yourself sealed in your own body, stuck in a constant cycle of life that bores you to tears at the very thought of it? And, have you ever, ever, felt the need, so incredibly overwhelming, to simply escape it all?
That, my freind, is the wild calling. It is the animal nature inside of you, wakened, once sleeping, rising from repose to feel the need of excitement and freedom and passion beyond all humanity. That is the furred beast wanting to spread its paws in the crisp winter snow, it is the winged bird wanting to spread its feathers and soar undaunted through the skies.
And, it is exactly what you will find here, in this hallowed place.
The only question is, are you willing to fight for that freedom?

Finally the bear moved off of Lyra. Kanaloa collapsed next to her friend. A wave of pain and nausea ran through her small body.
"Lyra. No." she whispered afraid that her friend was gone.
When Lyra spoke, Kanaloa felt as if she was watching her friend die. Kanaloa couldn't take it. Tears streamed unashamed down her face. A small laugh forced itself into her throat. "As long as we are on the same team."
Kanaloa wanted Lyra to be safe. She wasn't sure what sort of dangers lurked in these woods. "Listen to me Lyra." she said in a soft soothing voice, while trying to hide the pain. "We need to get you somewhere sheltered. Do you know somewhere near that we could be safe?"

Lyra felt a wave of nasea roll over her. One she had felt before, and was familiar with. It was the kind of feeling one would get only when they were close to death.
She had felt it in the boting shill of winter, when food was scarce and warmth was scarcer. She had felt it when fighting wild animals for food or territory, and they had proved more dangerous than she expected. And, she had felt it when she had first tried to swim, and found out the hard way that she could not breathe water.
She let the sensation cover her, but refused to let it take her away. She wanted to live. She wanted to fight this. At the sound of Kanaloa's voice, she jolted into consciousness, and the bear finally, finally rolled over dead.
Lyra just lay there, winded, unable to move, her side splintered from the inside, yet still clinging to life. She closed her eyes, sinking a little deeper into the endless sleep, but again she forced herself to wake.
"You tackled it fairly hard..." She smiled, and just managed to force out a laugh. "Remind me not to play football with you..."

Before Kanaloa got halfway back to the Grizzly, the pain in her ribs brought her to her knees. She tried helplessly to get up. Her eyes stared in fear at the Grizzly, fear that it would sense her vulnerability.
She suddenly saw Lyra clamp her teeth onto the bear's jungular vein. Kanaloa was amazed that it was still standing. It should be dead right now. This is one strong bear.
Seening the struggle between the two, Kanaloa tried to raise herself up again. Once more she failed. Then the bear fell onto Lyra.
"No!" Kanaloa screamed. In the effort to help her friend she managed to rise to her feet. She ran to her friend, ignoring the pain searing though her. "Lyra no!" Kanaloa was not aware of the tears streaming down her face.
With all her might she began to shove the unmoving Grizzly. At impact, she felt pain shoot through her like a bolt of lightning. She didn't care. The small cat continued to run into the Grizzly with all the strength that she could muster.

Lyra flinched as Kanaloa hit the tree. She did not like to see good things become injured, and, seeing as Kanaloa was her first freind, she had discovered that she liked seeing her friends become injured even less.
Lyra delivered a truly vicious bite to the thick hide and fur around the neck. It was meant to hit the jugular, but the thickness of the fur stoped it from killing the bear... barely. Lyra eased her jaws into the bite, not letting go. She worked with the thick fur, holding on even as the bear flailed to reach her. Lyra was intent. She would punish the evil. This bear was evil. It had taken her family from her, and it had cut her childhood short, sentencing her to a life of lonely solitude.
She bit down hard, and, just felt the first gush of blood. The bear's claws raked against her back and pulled her to the ground, crushing her underfoot. Lyra's breath was knocked out of her, and the huge foot just kept crushing. The bear was dead now, she knew it. A few moments, and it would bleed out.
Until then though, it was still lingering in life, and it was still robbing her of her own precious life. Just as it had taken away all else.
