Have you ever felt trapped? Caged? Barred? Have you ever looked up from your average, normal life -out from the tedium of normality and sanity- and felt that somehow, some way that you were chained down? Can you ever feel yourself sealed in your own body, stuck in a constant cycle of life that bores you to tears at the very thought of it? And, have you ever, ever, felt the need, so incredibly overwhelming, to simply escape it all?
That, my freind, is the wild calling. It is the animal nature inside of you, wakened, once sleeping, rising from repose to feel the need of excitement and freedom and passion beyond all humanity. That is the furred beast wanting to spread its paws in the crisp winter snow, it is the winged bird wanting to spread its feathers and soar undaunted through the skies.
And, it is exactly what you will find here, in this hallowed place.
The only question is, are you willing to fight for that freedom?

Dias/Shifter

Name:Lyra Lilac

Age:80 years(200 years is average lifespan)

Gender:female

Alliance:loner, seeking status

Personality:Lyra is an elegant mixture of finesse and ferocity. She is usually pleasant and soft spoken, but always sounds like she is holding back something. Usually, it's because she is. Lyra, although sweet at first glance, is remarkably sly and underhanded. She has a set amount of things that will just make her "snap", and once she does, the teeth and claws come out, and you're in for a thrashing. Usually though, she is extremely patient and understanding, in her own grudging way. She gets along well with most others, but can start a fight without warning.

Human Appearance:Lyra is tall and gaunt, but shapely around the waist and chest. She is often referred to in human form as a "swan", the way she moves so gracefully and purposely like the well known waterbird. Her hair is cropped short and mussed as if she doesn't give a care to it's appearance, and she has an overall delicate, if not slightly exotic look about her. Her eyes are a black that turns deep violet in the right light, and her hair is a silky silver-black.

Animal Appearance:Lyra is a natural born wolf, larger than most, but also leaner and more lithe than most too. She stands a good head above the average sized wolf, with silky fur the color of her human hair - being black with excessive silver highlights - and a thick, frizzy mane that she grooms down obsessively. Her height makes her fairly intimidating, but pound for pound she is usually weaker physically than most wolves her age, forcing her to use a set of techniques enabling her to compensate for the lack of raw power. She is entirely black, with the same, striking violet eyes as are found in her human form.

Abilities/Weaknesses:Lyra is incredibly quick and agile. She can hear several times better than a human being, and smell several times more. She also has more strength than a usual woman might have, but not enough for it to be too noticeable. Being nocturnal, she can also see in the dark, but doesn't like bright light and tends to sleep in the daytime. Her ears are very sensitive to high pitched noises, and her lack of strength where others of her kind would be strong hinders her in battle.

Background Information:Lyra was born to a pair of mated wolves early in the season, when ice still frosted over her forest home in the mountains. Most of the litter died then, as did her father soon after, but her mother and one other sister survived with her, and lasted into the later spring when food could be found.

She learned to hunt early, and mastered the skill without much trouble. It was soon after she grasped how to hunt that she dared venture off into the woods, only to be attacked by a bear that forced her deeper into the wilderness.

She fought the bear valiantly, though at the time she couldn't have been more than a pup. Tired and bruised from the bear's claws, she managed to lose it in an abandoned badger's nest, and slept there, for how long, she did not know. When she woke up, it was dark, and she did not know where she was. The bear was gone, but so was her scent with the freshly fallen rain, leaving nothing for her to track back to her family.

Alone and tired, she lived out of the badger's nest until she could find the strength to run. Then, she ran. She ran until the day bled into the night, like her paws bled into the ground, looking, looking for her lost sister and mother wherever they might be.

She could not find them, and, defeated, she crawled lifelessly under a rock to sleep again, after the third straight day of searching.

From then on, she has lived alone, surviving solely on her wit and keen instinct as an animal to guide her in her life. She does not fault the bear for driving her away, nor does she fault the small pup that she was for running foolishly out into he wild when she was not ready. She does not even fault the great Forest Spirits, that long ago her mother spoke to her of, telling that if she were only to believe they would right any wrong in her life.

No, she faults no one. There is no fault to place. Fate has brought her well into her adulthood, and the forest had been good to her. She only wishes that she may one day lead a life with others of her kind, and perhaps find her family, still dear in her heart.

Oh, yes, and hurt the traitorous humans that dare tear her forest down for their cities.

She does not fault the cities, but they are no match for the wild wonder of her forest. She does, however, fault the humans. The humans that tear apart the world where once there was peace...

Birth:Mother heaves now that her work is done. Father stands above her, wary.

Mother does not want Father to be here, but Father insisted on it, and now here he stands, above us, all four. I try to touch his nose, but Mother doesn't let me. She moves my blind paw to her belly, where I find the warm flow of milk and drink.

Mother doesn't want me to know, but I know. I saw Father. He is too lean, even for our kind. He is leaning badly from a stiff, old wound in his shoulder, a bad set, probably.

I don't know why I know this, but I do. I know all about what Mother tries to hide from me, and what Father tries to hide from Mother. I even know what Mother tries to hide. She is weak too. She doesn't have enough milk for all of us. I drink greedily, instinctively. I need the milk, I tell myself. I need it to stay alive.

There is something different about me, I know. I'm not a wolf pup like my brothers and sisters. I'm more than that, and it scares Mother. I can feel it in the way she stares at me, confused, but consumed with her nurturing instinct that she can't do anything about it. Father looked like he's known it for a while. He tries to sniff me with his big shiny nose. The nose that I tried to reach with my paw. mother won't have it. She snaps at Father, sending him sprawling across the cave we live in.

My brothers and sisters are startled, but as Mother settles back down, I continue to drink.

I must live, I keep telling myself. I must live, because I know something that my family doesn't. I know what the humans are doing, and I know how to stop it.

I know how to fix the world. But, for now, I drink my fill of milk and try to stay alive. Later, I want to find out what I know about the humans. Now, I just want to survive.

Additional Notes:Lyra is inclined not to like people, though, as mentioned, she is patient and willing to learn. As of her most recent run in of them, she deems them as unfit of their intellect, and looks down on them as life forms.
